Sister Sunday

Sundays have become a sisterly affair here at allie’s as each Sunday I go and pick Kate up from the hospital to come and spend the day at her big sisters crazy household full of crafts, kids and animals!
Today we watched some movies played with the kids and pets outside and we then had some girly time…
Kate has been having a hard time with her skin of late due to medications and changes to her body as she recovers and so with the help of my beautiful sister in law we shared in some skin techniques and had an all natural no chemicals facial together! If you havnt tried a yougurt and green tea face mask before today I highly recommend it, not only can you make it yourself at home for a smidgen of the cost but it feels great!

If you would like to give it a go here’s what you need;

Greek plain yougurt, lowest in sugar you can find, we used the jalna brand.
And some Powdered Japanese green tea, you may need to go to a specialty store to locate the powdered version of tea, my sister gets it from a Korean grocery store.

To mix, just add together in a small bowl, a dollop of yogurt, to a teaspoon of tea powder and mix to form a green paste.

Spread over your face… see picture, and let dry, then rinse off! Easy!

Great for sensitive skin!

I found the cotton dishcloths that I had made also great to use as exfoliating cloths and wash cloths whilst we did this ;) … it gave me an idea….This recipe on a card gifted with some powdered green tea and a handmade wash cloth would make a great Mother’s Day gift idea don’t you think?

I have recently felt I needed to find a crisper way to photograph my softie creations, as I sell most of my product over the Internet it’s important I try as best as I can to portray my product in their best light, it really is hard to see their true nature in a photo and nothing compares to the real thing but I do try to portray them too you the best way I can.
I found a plastic board white backdrop and am also now using a watermarking app to watermark my product photos with my logo, so far I’m pleased with the result, and I hope that you also feel the same.
Here are a few of my first models in their new light…. Meeko, Chrissy and Tinkles

Howdy friends!

I hope you had a lovely Easter and are ready for the school holidays coming up if your in Australia like I am :)
I had an eventful Easter break and am slowly getting back into to swing of crafting once again, and if you follow my facebook page you would see new items and crafts popping up as they are completed, please stop by and let me know what you think?
For those of you that know or are interested in how my sister Kate is doing well she had a great time with the hospital at the easter show outing and she is continuing to improve and is determined to get up walking and moving around again, although she is bored and frustrated she is in good spirits! I had a visit from the OT staff at the hospital at my house today to asses if Kate can come to my house for day leave and they were happy for that and went away with a plan to practice certain movements with Kate for when she visits, which will hopefully be next weekend. I shall keep you posted.

In other news I have been offered a full time position by my old employer and will be starting back at the Vet hospital tomorrow on reception. I am nervously excited. Don’t panic I will still be creating but I may be slow to answer any questions and posts if I am at work :) AHG has become such a blessing and such an important part of my life and I have you to thank for that and it will continue on even though I am returning to work.

Easter chickens have hatched

I decided that this Easter I would make something for all of the kids in my family for Easter, I have a few nieces and nephews with differing allergies and well as a mother we all know what it’s like when our children get a whole heap of chocolate ! So I thought to myself I’d make them all an Easter chicken softie instead of giving a heap if chocolate :) here is a preview of the 5 chickens I made for the boys, I am currently working on another 5 for the girls.

And for those of you that have been following Kate’s progress, my sister is continuing to improve daily, she can now move her right arm and feed herself as well as stand for short amounts of time with a little help, she is emotional and working on coming to terms with everything but is still moving forward. I will be going with her to the Easter show and am looking forward to it! We loved the show as kids and went every year. I am running another auction next Sunday night to help raise money for her care, I have some gorgeous items so please please share the date and link and come and shop next Sunday night 24th march auction opens at 5pm AEST.

Auction for My Kate TOMORROW AT 5PM!

20130301-214700.jpg

This is so hard for me to do but I’m opening up to you and reaching out to you as friends, family and fellow mums and sisters at this very difficult time in my life and hope that you might be able to help me….
This is my sister Kate, she is 24 years old, 6 weeks ago she was rushed to RNS hospital at 10am in the morning when her best friend/room mate found her unconscious and not breathing in her bed, Kate went into cardiac arrest three times before making it to hospital. She as a result suffered severe damage to her brain due to lack of oxygen and is currently recovering from this injury. She has come along way from near death but has so much more ahead of her, she is unable to communicate with us effectively and cannot speak or move or eat on her own, she has to rely on us to interprate her body language and we pray everyday that we don’t get it wrong. The cause of her injury appears to be linked to what we believe was an accidental overdose of prescription medications we found in her room, Kate was a beautiful, enthusiastic, hardworking and fun loving girl who also struggled with inner self esteem, depression and anxiety. My family live over an hour from where Kate is hospitalized. My mother in November of last year underwent major spinal surgery, however pulls any energy she has left to be there for Kate everyday and I try and do the same but with three children and working to try and keep my own head above water can make things very hard.
Mum is having to live out of nearby motels so that she can be with Kate each day and this comes at a price, through the grace of friends and family we have managed to get this far ( we rely on medicare for kates treatment, and are grateful for the care she is recieveing so far) but the journey is yet to continue for sometime and Kate is going to need special care and special facilities for her kind of injury, and mum is unable to afford to stay close by any longer meaning she has to try and drive the hour and a half in each morning in her condition, and it is heartbreaking for me as I can only give relief for short amounts of time.
And so this is where I would like to ask you for help, I would like to raise some money for my sister so that we can afford to help tie up any loose ends she has and to afford to be close to her as she recovers and also afford the little things and possible big things like wheel chairs and what not as she needs them.
I would like to after it was suggested to me try and attempt to put together an fundraising auction here on my page to help with these costs and am reaching out to my fellow handmade businesses and alike for donations for this auction with all proceeds going towards Kate and her care. I believe that every little bit can help and I know that networking like this not only helps My family but also helps your businesses to gain exposure.

HERE IS HOW IT WILL WORK (hopefully)

I have set up a special PayPal account for payments for Kate and each item will have a starting bid from $5.

Items will be shipped directly from the seller.

Winning bidders will be announced at auction close and they are required to supply their email address and make immediate payment upon recieveing their invoice their email address will be passed on to the seller to contact you re shipping details.

I will let sellers know as soon as payment is received so that you can ship your item.

Sellers please indicate if you will be covering postage or the postage amount that is required in your listing and this will be forwarded to you by me as soon as I receive payment for the item.

Auction will be held on the Sunday 3rd of march opening at 5pm and will conclude on the Monday the 4th at 8pm (NSW time)

So if you would like to donate please send your item and details to allieshandcraftedgifts@hotmail.com

Or if you would like to purchase something please be at my page on March 3rd and I will announce the auction start at 5pm

Alternatively to make a donation please donate through Paypal to this email address – fundsforkate@gmail.com

Thankyou in advance for your help xxalliexx

How do you relax?

Tags

, , , , , , , ,

It’s late and I should be sleeping but there is a somber mood here at Allie’s as my sister still remains in a coma. So I wonder how do you relax when times are stressful in your household? I like to draw or craft. Tonight I decided to draw, I havnt drawn for sometime and well I should, it is peaceful, I have a quiet space and its just me and the pencils and paper and well something to sketch. Tonight I decided to sketch a picture of my sister, I thought I would sketch a picture of her asleep, I used multiple photos to get the aspects of her face and draw her in the position I wanted. I hope she likes it! It was a nice to do something I enjoy that I havnt done for some time. Id love to hear of times where you have done something different to reconnect and relax! goodnight xx I hope you like my sketch!

Hello dear friends! I hope your new year has started well! Mine has been a little troubled for my liking with my sister in a critical state in hospital at this point in time, and so my new year plans have been delayed somewhat resulting in me being more absent from my creative space than I would have hoped. I do however have good news for you and new products and designs in the making, and for this I am excited! Plus did you know that Allie’s Handcrafted gifts will be turning 1 on the 31st of January??!! make sure you stay tuned as I hope to plan a special event or maybe even a giveaway!

To kick off the first Blog of the year….Here are some wooden peg magnets that are new in store in 2013! they are handdrawn by me each with a OOAK unique design and feature a super strong magnet which will hold multiple papers on you fridge or noteboard and look great as well!!

I have worked hard over christmas to make some changes to the production process of my softies, I will continue to work with the amazing Sarah of Dolls and Daydreams patterns and give them my quirky spin, but to them I have also made the change to widen my seam allowance and fray stop all seams and use a triple stitch setting on my machine. What this means for you is that your softies will be of the best quality I can make for you and will go the lovable distance any child or collector would expect from something handmade with love.
